19 October:

Paula (Lead Systems Engineer) and Sam (Advanced Apprentice) attended QE School in Wimborne, Dorset for their Careers and Apprenticeship Fair to answer queries from both parents and kids on engineering careers of all varieties.  It was great to see genuine interest in our company and our capabilities and were both kept very busy for the duration of the event!

Well done Paula and Sam!

World Clean Up Day 2022

17th September 2022:

World Clean Up Day 2022 united volunteers all over the world to tackle the global waste problem and build a sustainable world.  Our Poole office contributed with a litter pick along the street outside our office and in the nearby car park. A rewarding exercise to help tidy up the local area and clear up the nearby green space.  The litter collected was then sorted to separate the recyclables and was disposed of safely and correctly.  Well done Team!

The Seven Pillars of Business Confidence

2019 – 2022:

In 2019, we facilitated The Seven Pillars of Business Confidence programme to engage and inspire women through a series of high impact and practical confidence-boosting workshops spanning 20 weeks.  The programme was designed in conjunction with Adrienne Saunders (Yes You Can Training) in response to a business survey which highlighted challenges our women face working and progressing in a male-dominated environment.  They discovered their confident voices with strategies to express with clarity their career goals and understand how to use the latest communication techniques to inspire others to listen.

Diversity Drives Growth – Round Table Networking for Women

24th August 2022:

Yunex Traffic hosted this event on our Poole site, on behalf of the Women’s Engineering Society Hampshire and Dorset Cluster and Poole Marine Hub. We were joined by 22 women from 14 local businesses including BCP Council and Bournemouth University discussing how diversity can really grow businesses.  An inspirational morning learning from our speakers about their career paths, discovering how to get the best from networking and different initiatives locally to support diversity and inclusion.

Camp Barton, North Somerset volunteering

August 2022:

Eight volunteers from Yunex Traffic delivered STEM and sports activities, keeping a group of children with varying disabilities thoroughly entertained for the day.  At Camp Barton, North Somerset, Bristol Children’s Help Society offers residential and outdoor learning experiences for children whose personal circumstances have significantly depleted their life opportunities.

A truly humbling and motivating experience.

The children were obviously delighted with our visit!

Commonwealth Games: Squash United & England Squash

August 2022:

One of our Senior Service Account Managers, Jonathan Peak spent an amazing seven days volunteering at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022.  He was a “have a go” leader working for Squash United and England Squash where anyone had the opportunity to play on a specially-built mini court outside the venue from 09:00 – 21:00 each day.  Many of the top players supported the experience, including games gold medal winners. Over 5000 people tried out on the court over the 12 days, aged from 2 to 82…an International player for the over-75s team no less!  A fantastic experience!

Commonwealth Games – Collective Volunteers

July / August 2022:

Rocky Pearson from our Tendering team was fortunate to be one of 14,000 Games Collective volunteers selected from 40,000 applicants.  He volunteered for four days, two days on the Cycling time trial and two days on the Women’s and Men’s Road Race.

“If you know me that you’ll know I’m a proud Brummie and I couldn’t be prouder of my home city after they smashed the Commonwealth Games”.

Well done Rocky!

Maya Solanki had the pleasure of re[resenting Yunex Traffic at a Careers Fair held at Heron Hall Academy in Ponders End, Enfield.  She spoke to approximately 240 Year 10 children about her role in the company, her career path, as well as the routes to employment with the company.  Maya was encouraged to see lots of interest in Yunex Traffic and perhaps some future employees!

Well done Maya!

Procurement Team Volunteering Day July 2022

19 July 2022:

As part of our volunteering programme, the procurement team have been out supporting the community at a local dementia care home.  The care home’s next project was to rescue chickens!  Our team painted fences, dug holes, set posts in concrete, and created a designated area for the chicken coop with newly-constructed run – and all this on the hottest day of the year!  A rewarding experience providing a new home for their chickens and also helping residents to connect with old memories.  Well done team!

International Women in Engineering Day 2022

23 June 2022:

For International Women in Engineering Day, our Normanton team offered a female colleague a glimpse into the day-to-day of the Field Service team.  Dawn Murrell experienced a typical day for Field Services, she visited a number of sites, which was a far cry from her usual job as a senior administrator in Normanton.  Her day included the D2D motorway contract and also a number of new traffic installations within the Barnsley contract area.  She bravely climbed the gantry over the A1(M) north of Boroughbridge.

A great opportunity to get out on site and appreciate our Field Services colleagues working environment.  Well done Dawn!

World Environment Day 2022 #OnlyOneEarth

9 June 2022:

Congratulations and thanks to the nineteen Yunex Traffic volunteers who picked up 10 twenty-five litre bags or recyclable / compostable waste, as well as 1 black bag of litter during a lunchtime litter pick near the Poole office.  The litter collected was sorted to separate the recyclables and was disposed of safely and correctly.  As a thank you, the volunteers enjoyed some great fair-trade coffee from Cool Coffee Cart, a local business.

School pond and garden transformation by our team!

May 2022:

We have recently supported a local school by helping to dig out an old pond and garden ready for it to be transformed into an area which the children will use to support their learning and also a community vegetable plot.  A great team effort of moving soil, rocks and concrete – on a particularly warm day!

Yunex Traffic Global Cleanup

19-22 April 2022:

“Invest in our planet” was the theme of World Earth Day 2022, encouraging global change aimed at preserving and protecting our health, families and livelihoods.  In support of Earth Day, events were held across Yunex Traffic sites from 19-22nd April for the Global Cleanup Challenge.

Colleagues from our Poole office contributed with a litter pick across the site and nearby park.  It was not our usual work activity but we found it a very rewarding exercise.  By removing waste from the local area, especially plastic, we can make it more pleasant for people to live and work as well as help the natural ecosystem of wildlife.

Manchester Marathon

5 April 2022:

The Manchester Marathon took place on Sunday 5th April this year.  4 of our colleagues ran the gruelling 26.2 miles to raise almost £6,000 for a very worthy charity.  Their preparation involved setting goals, planning and hard work sharing their training programme and data from their tracking apps on our internal social community site. The response to these posts was overwhelming with everyone sharing messages of support which provided a much needed boost for training after a full day’s work, inclement weather and countless blisters! The runners noticed a positive impact on their mental health during this process and were very grateful to their colleagues who supported them on race day.

QE School Careers Fair

26 January 2022:

Yunex Traffic was represented by Cam Stark and Russ Bartlett at QE Careers Fair, Wimborne helping to showcase six entry level talent positions starting in September at the Poole site.

Yunex Traffic took part in a recent Apprenticeship Career Fair at the RNLI in Poole represented bu some of our current apprentice and also an ex-apprentice. All had an opportunity to tell future recruits about their stories.  Luke, for example went on from his apprenticeship to gain a degree and Tom explained how he has been helping to develop the new aluminium signal head for worldwide supply!

November 2021:

At the ITS-UK Annual Industry Awards in November 2021, we accepted the “Inclusivity Mobility Award” on behalf of all Yunex Traffic staff who have given their time and expertise to support our local communities.  Mobility is so much more than moving people and goods – it’s about making our transport networks accessible and safe for everyone.

Yunex Traffic Senior Management Team transforms care home garden

October 2021:

A local care home welcomed green fingered team members from Yunex Traffic to revamp its garden.  Residents and team members were delighted to welcome our Senior Management Team who gave up their time to transform the home’s garden as part of our community outreach programme.  We were really please to support our neighbours and help renovate the outdoor space for residents and their families to enjoy.  The entire team found the day really rewarding and we’re looking forward to supporting the care home again in the future.

Yunex Traffic are Real Living Wage accredited!

Yunex Traffic has become an accredited employer with the Living Wage Foundation.  Gaining this accreditation meant that we committed to paying a voluntary, externally determined, hourly pay rate in excess of that required by law (i.e. above the minimum wage)

In order to retain our accreditation we will be adjusting pay annually to reflect any amendments made by the Resolution Foundation and Living Wage Commission to ensure hourly pay rates meet the commitment.

Enabling independence for people with disability

In 2020, Yunex Traffic received a request for help from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council for a lady who relied on an assistance dog, Darwin to help with practical tasks.  Darwin’s essential training stalled due to COVID-19 and travel to the training centres was restricted leaving Alex unable to leave her home safely.

The team responded to the request for help and volunteered 7 days to deliver a remote nearside unit in Alex’s garden that, with some custom-built battery supported circuitry, allows Darwin to practice entering demands for crossing points by simulating a cycle of Wait/Red-Man/Green-Man. The team did not only supply a working box, but they also arranged for a sub-contractor to provide the civils which included cementing a short pole into the ground.

Supporting children with educational needs

October 2020:

The ITS team in Poole were contacted by Sheiling School in Ringwood, Hampshire to help build a pedestrian crossing on their campus.  Sheiling School and College provides a learning environment for around 70 students who have special educational needs.

Our Field Services team committed their volunteering time, working closely with the school for two months to install equipment, making sure students can familiarise themselves and gain confidence with the use of a controlled crossing but within a safe environment.  Following the challenges of COVID-19 the team were proud to be a part of something so positive and help those in need.

Environmental Volunteering Day at Upton Heath

Some of our HSQE team had the privilege of joining in with some environmental volunteering in Upton Heath Nature Reserve organised by Dorset Wildlife Trust.  The heath was badly damaged by a fire in the summer of 2018 so it was their job to clear the ground of burnt gorse, shrubs and trees in an effort to speed up the ground’s natural recovery process.  Environmental influence on wellbeing is not uncommon (reduced stress levels, increased attention, reduced aggression), but the extent to which a difference is made, and giving back to the community is another motivation.

Environmental Volunteering: Bracken bruising on Brownsea Island

A group of our volunteers came together, in aid of Dorset Wildlife Trust, for bracken bruising on Brownsea Island.  This practise manages bracken growth in sensitive habitats helping to keep the species mix more balanced.  Bracken is an overpowering species, which is poisonous to grazing livestock and small mammals.
